The IMAGO Research Group was founded in 1995 at Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), Brazil. The main objectives of the group are: 1) To develop state-of-the-art research on computer vision, graphics, image processing, and pattern recognition; 2) To support the development of graduate (MSc, PhD) and undergraduate researches; 3) To provide tools that improve life quality of human beings. The ongoing researches focus on: 3D digital preservation of cultural and natural assets (precise 3D modeling and printing, virtual museum); Biometrics (newborn recognition, face and action recognition); and Assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

The research projects of the IMAGO Research Group are supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN), National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Personnel (CAPES), the Research and Projects Financing Company (FINEP), the Araucária Foundation and the Foundation of the Universidade Federal do Paraná (FUNPAR).
